In 2022, Northeastern University -a private research university- expanded its Charlotte footprint to the booming South End neighborhood to create a new, state-of-the-art facility for its Nursing Program students. This 40,000 SF, first generation upfit across 1.5 floors at The Line is designed to attract students by promoting the idea of student engagement and provide hands-on learning opportunities.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE UNIVERSITY
This high-end space is not only unique in its design with curved classroom fronts, a rooftop patio and a showstopping monumental stair: it also provides several unique learning environments for students. Medical simulation rooms with interactive ‘dummies’ allow students to engage in real-life patient treatment situations. Patient rooms with one-way glass let instructors monitor and provide feedback on simulated patient interactions. And state-of-the-art classrooms and collaboration spaces encourage student-employee interaction. All of these design elements help to further the school’s experience-powered approach.

A HIGH-END SPACE THAT DOESN’T BREAK THE BANK
This space was built and designed with the student in mind and needed to provide opportunities for learning and growth while staying within a strict budget. Value engineering efforts coupled with the team’s extensive institutional construction experience allowed the client to save $245,000 off their overall budget.
