HEALTHCARE
This 9,500 square foot space for Mission Hospital in downtown Asheville is home to the hospital’s Breast Imaging Center, one of the premier treatment facilities in Western NC. In 2022, the space underwent significant renovations to modernize the center, which now includes five mammography rooms, four ultrasound rooms, three treatment rooms, a waiting area, a gang restroom, and a new 2-stop elevator.
INFECTION CONTROL IN A HIGH-RISK, OCCUPIED SPACE
This project was completed in an active medical building with high-risk patients and while other hospital services, including bone marrow transfers, were ongoing. Extensive planning was done to ensure the safety of hospital staff and patients throughout the project while working in such close quarters. Precautions include separating active construction areas from occupied spaces with temporary walls and hanging fire retardant plastic to deck around existing MEP conduit and ductwork. Additionally, infection control was put into place with an anteroom fitted with a negative air machine to keep the anteroom at an air pressure measurement of -0.01 w.g. and monitored by a manometer at all times.
